Shaping Denver: How Women Are Leading Real Estate’s Next Chapter

The real estate landscape in Denver is evolving. Deals are more complex, community needs are more pressing, and successful outcomes increasingly rely on creative approaches and strategic partnerships. At Bisnow’s Women Leading Real Estate event, Golub & Company’s Laura Newman, Vice President of Investment and Development, joined fellow industry leaders to unpack what we’re seeing in the market and how women are shaping the future. The conversation covered much more than deal structures. It was about vision, leadership, and the role of developers in building communities that create a positive impact for a range of stakeholders.

Creativity with Intention
In today’s real estate landscape, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Creative strategies rooted in a sense of purpose yield results that serve both the community and the project’s long-term interests. During the event, Laura shared a standout example: a Golub-led deal that began as a land donation at Denargo Market in RiNo became a 56-unit supportive housing community for young adults aging out of foster care. As the team explored how an affordable housing component could drive positive impact, the vision evolved. The outcome was a partnership with a mission-driven development team that collaborated with TGTHR to create a much-needed living environment, demonstrating how intentional development can create shared value and be a win-win for all parties involved.

Purpose that Performs
Like many cities today, Denver faces challenges, including high construction costs, limited housing supply, and increasing regulatory barriers. Those same conditions make purpose-driven development even more critical. We’re seeing more partners prioritize impact alongside return, and for good reason. At Golub, we don’t just build projects, we invest in places. We do this through creative placemaking, community engagement, and designing spaces that elevate their surroundings. Laura and her team focus on outcomes that lead to financial and social success. When you build something that matters — that brings value to your stakeholders — it endures.

Women Setting the Pace
Across the sector, women are driving the next generation of real estate leadership. They are leading conversations around design, investment, and innovation. We know that diversity in real estate matters because McKinsey’s 2023 report found that companies with gender-diverse leadership teams were 25% more likely to outperform on profitability. A new wave is here, and women are bringing fresh perspectives to every stage of the real estate process. We are seeing women who lead, prioritize collaboration over control, and shared purpose over individual acclaim.

Golub’s Approach

In Denver and beyond, we’re excited about leaders like Laura, who are driving change and ushering in a new era of women in the real estate industry. Laura and her fellow panelists are proof that leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about asking the right questions and building teams and partnerships that reflect the complexity of the market.
