In 2016, Golub & Company and CIM Group embarked on a joint venture to acquire and transform the iconic Tribune Tower. Originally a 36-story, 737,000-square-foot office building, this historic landmark was reimagined into 162 luxury residential condominiums, complemented by 47,000 square feet of prime retail space along Michigan Avenue.
Tribune Tower, a cherished Chicago landmark, boasts not only its renowned architecture but also its deep-rooted connection to the city’s history. Located at the intersection of the Chicago River and Michigan Avenue, the tower was originally constructed in 1925, adjacent to a printing plant. Over the years, the site evolved with the addition of the Radio Building in 1935 and the Television Building in 1950. By 2018, the 34-story tower and its surrounding buildings were converted into luxury condominiums.
The tower’s historic façade was carefully preserved and restored, maintaining its architectural grandeur. The original entry and tower lobby, both open to the public, continue to showcase the building’s heritage. The retail frontage of the former printing plant was also revitalized, contributing to a vibrant Pioneer Court and public plaza.
A modern touch was added with the construction of four additional floors above the TV Building, featuring a sleek glass design that contrasts yet complements the existing limestone façades. This addition frames a new elevated courtyard, offering residents a serene shared greenspace. The building also offers luxury amenities, including a pool and terrace tucked behind the original Chicago Tribune sign, and a lounge with a wrap-around terrace at the tower’s crown, providing residents with an unparalleled experience beneath the iconic gothic buttresses.
